This week, Yvon Bock shares more about her role as the Founder and CEO of Hegen, a homegrown baby products business designed to enhance the breastfeeding experience for both mothers and babies. Yvon is a Certified Lactation Counsellor and the Creator, Inventor and Designer of Hegen products. When she’s not at work, she’s a wife to her husband Leon, and a mother to four beautiful kids.
What helps you in achieving your goals?
Having a passion for my purpose, to always feel like I have something that I need to do. I started Hegen with a clear purpose—to help and support breastfeeding mothers around the world. Firmly believing in my purpose and having the passion and determination to pursue my dream played a big part in achieving my goals. Having courage to leap into the unknown, embrace uncertainty and go beyond my comfort zone helped me as well.
What does a successful woman mean to you?
To me, a successful woman is someone who has the courage and perseverance to pursue her dreams. She's able to achieve balance, perspective and be present in the multi-faceted roles (at work and in the family) that she plays. I personally feel successful when I am able to cultivate an inclusive environment and see everyone around me being themselves regardless of race, religion or orientation.
Which animal best represents your working self?
I’d say a horse. Horses are seen to be free-spirited, wild and strong-headed. I am very excited and free-spirited whenever I am in my R&D lab at work. It’s like my playground where I allow myself to go wild and free with my designs and ideas. I find myself being strong headed too, especially when it comes to pushing for an idea or inspiration that I truly believe in. It is this steadfast mindset that has enabled me to achieve milestones and successes at Hegen.
Any advice for women working towards their dreams?
Believe in yourself. Dreams will only come true when you set out a clear action plan and strategy on how to get there. Start by setting your objectives and goals in small bite sizes, e.g. 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, 12 months. I also find it important to visualise how you want your life to be at different stages (in 3 years', 5 years', 10 years' time). When chasing dreams, obstacles and challenges are inevitable. Remember that challenges are sent your way to test your determination and clarity of what you want to do. Never give up. The key is to persevere and stay true to your purpose and mission.
What’s in your Toscano bag / what do you love about your bag?
I’m a modern day woman who is always on-the-go, shuffling between work and kids, so my Toscano bag allows me to carry all my essentials in an organised manner—without compromising on the aesthetics. I love how there are various compartments within the bag, making it easy for me to reach for things easily.
What’s your pick-me-up?
Spending quality time with my husband and children.
If you could be a superhero, what power would you possess?
I hope to have the superpower of curing diseases, critical illnesses, and help people live meaningful lives without pain and suffering.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
I see myself in my happy place at Hegen, designing more innovative products and leading Hegen to impact the world positively through a combination of products, services, education and community service. I also see myself continuously setting up more healthcare & wellness centres around the world to support mums and dads on their breastfeeding journey.
