If you were lucky enough to get your hands on our recent limited edition TOS x SIA collection with Singapore Airlines, you would have already gotten a sneak preview of our new plant-based material, apple leather! We’re proud to finally announce the arrival of this leather with the launch of Iduna—Singapore’s first bag collection made out of apple leather.
We’re no stranger to vegan-friendly products, having released fan favourites such as the TOS x SIA collection, Aimee Tote and TAF Edition. It’s important to us to provide better alternatives wherever possible, so we've expanded our range of vegan-friendly products by introducing apple leather to our catalogue.
Function has always been at the core of what we make, so we felt the need to create a beautiful and functional collection made out of our new material. Thus, the Apple Leather Series and its first collection, Iduna, was born! Iduna combines functional luxury with the beauty of apple leather, giving you an experience of vegan leather like never before.
Fun fact: Iduna was named after Iðunn, a goddess associated with apples and youth in Norse mythology.
You’re probably wondering what apple leather really is. As its name suggests, it’s a fabric that’s made from real apples, primarily leftover apple waste from the food industry. Here’s how it’s made:
1. Apples are milled and pressed to produce apple juice, jams or compote2. The production leaves behind residue known as apple pomace
3. This waste is upcycled and mixed with a binding agent to produce apple leather
It’s a sustainable approach to reduce food waste that would otherwise end up in landfills, be incinerated or left to decompose.
To ensure quality and consistency, our apple leather is responsibly-sourced! It is PETA-Approved Vegan and a USDA Certified Biobased Product (66%). It even has the same luxurious touch and feel of animal leather.
Iduna has been continuously refined and improved based on your insightful responses to our apple leather surveys. It has been a long and tough process, so we’re delighted to finally share the collection with you.
